The Book of the Right Way of Laozi – 81

Truthful language is not fancy; fancy language is not truth-telling.
Good people are not argumentative; argumentative people are not good.
The wise are not pedantic; pedantic people are not wise.
The sage is detached; the more he gives, the more he gains.
The universal way benefits all beings; the sage acts without opposition.

Alternative rendering:

The true speech is not beautiful; the beautiful speech is not true.
The good person does not argue; the argumentative person is not good.
The person who knows is not rich; the rich person does not know.
The holy person does not gather.
Since the more one has, the more one gives,
Therefore the more one gives. the more one receives.
The tao benefits everyone without harm
And the holy person of the tao acts without contention.
