The Book of the Right Way of Laozi – 26

26

The heavy is the root of the light.
Quietude masters intemperance.
Truly, no matter how long or how far he travel under the sun, the king does not abandon his household.
Though he have glory and honour, like the swallow he abides in the state of perfect transcendence.
Shall one conquer all, yet remain light?
He who makes himself light will lose his root (in the heavy).
He who yields to intemperance will lose his dominion.
