The Loneliness of the Dalai Lama

Dedicated to His Holiness the Dalai Lama

My birth, taken.

Surprised by the light,

The caravan carries me away

Into the night.

I cannot see

Where it might end,

But I remember

Where it began.

The flowers of my flesh

Cover the countryside.

Buried deep,

Their roots abide.

This candle flame,

Alone in name,

It is my shame

To carry.

I dare not tarry.

I shall not stagger

Beneath two destinies.

For I am free.
