Red Robe

If you’re not willing to take

Your heart in your mouth

And tear it apart

Like a dog with a rag in its mouth;

If you’re not willing to be crushed

By the question of your own existence;

If you are not utterly detached

And driven by desire,

You are not a disciple of the Buddha.
